Sleep Deprived

Hello my lovelies!

I first want to apologize for not giving y'all an update for quite some time. But please know that I am doing SO well and cherishing every moment! It's hard to believe that as of today (this morning? last night?) I have been here for three weeks. The crazy thing is that I feel like I've been here for much longer.

Currently, it is a little after 2 AM and I'm snuggled up under my blankets gazing at my cow lights. I probably should be sleeping, rather than blogging, because I work at 8 AM and have to continue the weekend with being on duty. But, having a fire alarm go off at 1 AM and pounding on doors to get residents to leave the building, due to a bag of burnt popcorn, is reason enough to stay up. I'd call it an adrenaline rush. Or just being a college student.

These days, I am used to being sleep deprived. The past few nights have been filled with minimal sleep and the days with an overload of enthusiasm. From training, to prepping the building, to freshman move-in to student orientation, I am exhausted. I can barely remember the past few days. However, I CAN tell you that classes start on Tuesday and that I am looking forward to having a more concrete schedule in which I can be sure to schedule in some sleep.

Even though I am walking around in a daze, I don't regret any of the (poor) decisions I've made that (more than likely) could affect my sleep: jumping into a lake at 10 PM, going out, laying in the sun, swimming, playing Super Smash Bros., catching up with people from home, etc. And obviously those are just a few of the many things I've done. One night last week, Carl (maintenance coordinator) invited everyone over to his home on the ocean where we had a campfire on the beach, took out the kayaks, played some frisbee, and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. WHAT A NIGHT. Then yesterday for orientation, we got to go whale watching! And that was phenomenal--they were so CUTE. Also, pretty intimidating.

I'm slowly adjusting to the Alaskan life and learning how to live without my go to items back home: Target, Gap, Target, Gap, Gap, Gap, Target, andddd Gap. Though at the same time, I'm enjoying the simplicity of it all. I've made friends, am familiarizing myself with the town, and really feel like my quirky awkward punny self. I have so much more to say but I am having difficulties fighting my eye lids at the moment. I promise to update soon and post pictures (I just can't focus right now). I love and miss you all back at home! HUGZ AND LOVE.

- A
